The J1939 female connector is with a locking ring. Rotating the locking ring after plugging assures that the connector won’t come unplugged accidentally.
The end of Deutsch 9 Pin female and male plugs can be overmolded or not, according to your needs. If the ends are overmolded, the cables are more sturdy and durable. If not overmolded, the price can be lower because the raw material and labour cost is saved.

The Deutsch 9 Pin female connector of this cable is Type 2, so its Pin F is with smalller diameter as Pin C and Pin J. Type 2 J1939 female connectors can be inserted into Type 1 or Type 2 J1939 male receptacles.

Application
This is a cable between a J1939 round Deutsch 9-pin female connector, a J1939 Deutsch 9 pin male connector and a Molex 20 pin female connector. The J1939 +/- data lines are connected to the CAN +/- lines, and the power and ground lines are also connected.
The common application is to connect telematics, fleet management devices or trucking technology devices to commercial vehicles that have the J1939 9-pin round diagnostic ports. Some telematics or fleet management devices are equipped with Molex 20 Pin male ports, so Molex 20 Pin female connector on this cable can match them. The Deutsch 9 pin J1939 male receptacle on the cable can accept some telematics or fleet management devices with J1939 9-pin ports such as ELDs (Electronic Logging Devices).
